The program was last updated on December 20, 2002 (version
3.01).
Download the program and sample files
(the sample files are identical to those distributed with SURV2,
with the exception of surv3ini.def).
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The program is still under development, although development
is progressing slowly. A manual has not been written. The SURV2
manual is current, however, since the format of the parameter
files has not changed.
We would appreciate feedback. If you encounter problems, please
send a description of the problem, the OS you are running, along
with copies of your parameter files, popmort.dat, and a subset
of the data so we can reproduce the problem.
RUNNING SURV3
- The parameter files must reside in the same directory as
the executable file (SURV3.EXE). If you have several projects
then you must make multiple copies of SURV3.EXE.
- The name of the configuration file must be specified in
surv3ini.def.
- At present, the configuration (INI) file and the names of
parameter files must be specified (in the INI file). Ultimately
it will be possible to select these files from withing SURV3.
- SURV3 does not always recognise when parameter files have
changed. After making changes it is advisable to exit and
restart the program. This problem is one of our main priorities
at present. The problem results from the fact that version
1 was a batch program, so the code has not been structured
in a way that makes it easy to update parameters during a
session.
NOTES
- We are confident that the life table estimates are correct.
The code for the main calculation engine has not changed from
that used in SURV2.
- SURV3 does not always recognise when parameter files are
changed. After making changes it is advisable to exit and
restart the program.
- No theoretical limit of the number of life tables which
can be produced in a single run.
- Currently a limit of 5 NV parameters; this will be increased
to 10.
