The annual statistics on the occurrence of cancer gives numbers of cases and incidence rates by gender, primary site, age and health care district. Tabular material by other or more detailed parameters can also be produced. This service is usually charge-free. Identifiable data on individual cancer patients can only be obtained for research purposes. A permission granted by STAKES (National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health) is always needed.
In the classification of the primary sites, the 10th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10, WHO, 1992) has been used. As all tabulations published before 20 November 2002 were based on the old ICD-7 classification, they are not comparable with the present ones.
